Have you ever felt like the universe was trying to tell you something — loudly? In August 2022, Todd was airlifted from our land after breaking his leg so holiday he couldn't walk for five months. We had a 10-month-old baby, a new move that wasn’t even unpacked, and zero weight-bearing on his leg.
Then, in October, I (Christen) was surprise-laid off from my corporate marketing job. Zero income. A broken leg. A baby. Most people would call that a disaster. We called it our "forced to start."
The "Boring" Business Pivot
While Todd was stuck on the couch with a remote and his brain, he found a YouTube video talking about "boring businesses." He realized that while tech startups grab the headlines, the local economies in North Alabama are built on things like cleaning, plumbing, and landscaping.
We didn't have a bank loan. We didn't have investors. We had less than $5,000 and the will to survive. We realized that if we could provide a service that was reliable, professional, and actually cared about the people doing the work, we could build something special.
From $0 to $250,000
In just one year, we've scaled to a team of 13 providers and are projecting $250,000 in revenue for our first full calendar year. We didn't do it with fancy tech — we did it with:
- Low-Cost Tools: Using BookingKoala for scheduling and Canva for our branding.
- Extreme People-Focus: Paying our providers more than the industry standard (our 50/50 split).
- Relentless Honesty: Admitting when we're wrong and fixing it immediately.
